Abstract

Elguneid Sugar Factory is taken as a case study. In this factory there is no treatment plant and some of the waste-water is drained into the Blue Nile River causing lot of environmental problems to the aquatic life and the nearby areas. The analysis of the produced waste-water showed very high B.O.D5 of 2300 mg/l and C.O.D of 6000 mg/l and with TSS of 1976 mg/l. It was concluded that the treatment and management of this waste-water are important and must be enforced by laws and regulations. Effective microorganism (EM) was also applied at different concentrations for incubation period of 45 days, but it had no effect on C.O.D and B.O.D5. It is recommended that more research and investigation is to be carried out to prove its effectiveness.

A control system strategy was developed, the physical and block diagrams were drawn. The transfer functions for each process were identified, the overall transfer functions were determined, and the system was analyzed using single input single output (SISO) and multiple loop cascade control.
