Abstract

Enterobius vermicularis is one of the most prevelant intestinal parasites in the world. It commonly affects children residing in overcrowded areas and with poor general hygiene. It usually leads to pruritis ani. We report a case of enterobiasis in a six years old child presenting with features of resistant urinary infection not responding to multiple courses of antibiotics .Later she was investigated thoroughly and found to be a case of ectopic enterobiasis in urinary tract. She responded to mebendazole therapy completely. The urinary tract being rarely affected, only a few cases have been reported in literature. In conclusion, pinworm infection should be kept as one of the differential diagnosis in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms with negative urine cultures.
