Abstract

The antibacterial screening of ethanolic extract of Musa paradisiaca and Musa sapientum were investigated. Extracts from both fruits at all the concentrations used 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 g/ml inhibited the growth of the three tested bacteria; Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococci pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with diameter of zones of inhibition range between 6 mm to 16 mm. It was also observed that there was a corresponding increase in the diameter of zone of inhibition as concentration increased. These findings showed that the fruits can be used as therapy on infections from which the bacteria were isolated.
