Abstract

Introduction: The inclination of this scholarly work was to establish the preponderance of widow’s
peak among the Yorubas in Nigeria.
Materials and Methods: This inquisition embraced a descriptive cross-sectional survey procedure
and made use of data form and direct observation. The inquiry engrossed 290 subjects and
multistage sampling. Examination of each subject’s forehead was undertaken with a bright light to
scrutinize for the existence of widow’s peak. The records gotten were anatomized with simple
frequency percentage for the descriptive statistics and the use of chi-square test to consider
consociation between gender and distribution of widow’s peak. Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences (SPSS) version 23 was employed in the bid to anatomize the statistics. Any p-value that
was not as high as 0.05 was termed significant.
Results: A total of 189 males and 195 females were scrutinized. Widow’s peak was noticed in 19%
and 13% of the males and females respectively. Chi-square value is 2.315, degree of freedom (df)
=1 and p is 0.125. Thus there is no significant gender difference in the commonness of Widow’s peak
among the Yorubas in Nigeria (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Widow’s peak is not predominant among the Yorubas in Nigeria.
