Abstract

The idea that HIV itself is the etiological agent of AIDS is generally accepted. According to this claim,
virus was transferred to humans from monkeys in Africa through random contacts sometime between
35 and 50 years ago. However, this claim was not sufficiently epidemiologically confirmed. S. Scott
and Ch. Duncan based on the spread and incubation period of the plague epidemic, proposed a
theory that “Black Death” could be caused by haemorrhagic viruses. On the basis of detailed historical
data, we have concluded that other than Yersenia pestis on the epidemic involved another agent, and
thus according to our results and conclusions it was HIV. Our considerations were mainly based on
more than 2000 years of CCR5 delta 32 mutation in Caucasian populations that protect against HIV
infection. By combining these agents, the “Black Dead” epidemic was devastating and led to the
removal of HIV carriers and an increase in the number of CCR5 delta 32 mutations in the Caucasian
population to 10% and up to 15-20%. In Sub-Saharan Africa, this epidemic and subsequent
"sanitation process" has not taken place. Therefore, the level of HIV genetic information is much
higher than in other parts of the world.
