Abstract

Foaming of the concrete for gaining favorable strength to weight ratio is well established and widely used. The objective of the current work is evaluation of mechanical and thermal properties of foamed polymer concrete for fire retardant applications. The foamed epoxy concrete mix with fly ash as filler is evaluated for fire retardant properties using aluminum powder as foaming agent. Interactions were evaluated by Fourier Transformed Infra-Red Spectroscopy. The strength was analyzed by evaluating Compression, Flexural and Impact testing. The results indicate correlation between the weight % of the constituents like Portland cement, Fly ash, epoxy and degree of foaming. Differential scanning Micrograph and Thermogravimetric Analysis indicated the shift in the decomposition temperature leading to more fire retardant behavior.
